Event Prop Hire Work Experience - (York 2016)
Event Prop Hire is the UK’s premier prop and furniture hire service with a reputation for creative flair, excellent service and fresh ideas. They are based in Wetherby and provide a variety of services such as prop rental, furniture hire, prop customisation, event design, installation and nationwide delivery.
The company was first set up over fifteen years ago by Rosie Ellis and Matthew East, ex students of the Northern School of Art, my alma mater, and have created over fifteen thousand props to date! They currently employ over seventy people nationwide with various skill sets such as sculptors, joiners, scenic artists, prop makers, fabric technicians and printers.
I have been lucky to be accepted for work experience twice at Event prop hire in York, each time learning about different materials and techniques used by practitioners in the world of professional prop creation and delivery. While there I collaborated on the creation of a restaurant set, and I got to work with one of the prop makers on a personal project, building a replica energy sword from the popular game Halo (the finished product is to the right with the production process below). It was a fantastic and eye-opening experience and it's easy to see why they are one of the premiere prop companies in the UK.
